No Longer Under the Law

Repeatedly we hear believers parrot this phrase which they have heard from their preachers. Here’s a different idea that is based upon what the Word actually says. (See The Law Has Been Done Away for the basis for this article as to why listen to the Old Testament.)

Really? Then why are today’s Christians still suffering curses from disobeying it?

Deuteronomy 28:15 "But it shall come about, if you will not obey the LORD (Hebrew = Yahweh) your God, to observe to do all His commandments and His statutes with which I charge you today, that all these curses shall come upon you and overtake you.

What are some of the curses today’s Christians visibly suffer which shows that the “law” (Hebrew, torah = the teachings and instructions of God) is still in effect?

Deuteronomy 28:21-22 "Yahweh will make the pestilence cling to you until He has consumed you from the land, where you are entering to possess it.

²² "Yahweh will smite you with consumption and with fever and with inflammation and with fiery heat and with the sword and with blight and with mildew, and they shall pursue you until you perish.

Deuteronomy 28:23-24 ²³"And the heaven which is over your head shall be bronze, and the earth which is under you, iron.

²⁴"Yahweh will make the rain of your land powder and dust; from heaven it shall come down on you until you are destroyed.

Deuteronomy 28:27-28 "Yahweh will smite you with the boils of Egypt and with tumors and with the scab and with the itch, from which you cannot be healed.

²⁸"Yahweh will smite you with madness and with blindness and with bewilderment of heart;

Deuteronomy 28:49-50 "Yahweh will bring a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth, as the eagle swoops down, a nation whose language you shall not understand,

⁵⁰ a nation of fierce countenance who shall have no respect for the old, nor show favor to the young.

Deuteronomy 28:58-61 "If you are not careful to observe all the words of this law which are written in this book, to fear this honored and awesome name, Yahweh (Hebrew = Yahweh) your God,

⁵⁹then Yahweh will bring extraordinary plagues on you and your descendants, even severe and lasting plagues, and miserable and chronic sicknesses.

⁶⁰"And He will bring back on you all the diseases of Egypt of which you were afraid, and they shall cling to you.

⁶¹"Also every sickness and every plague which, not written in the book of this law, Yahweh will bring on you until you are destroyed.

Today we see sicknesses we thought were eradicated re-emerging. We are plagued with tumors (cancer) of which the number of cases are growing each year. In 1900, cancer rates were 1 in 2000. Today, the statistics are that one in three will get cancer and one in two will die from it. As we have forsaken the instructions of God, the curse of doing so has increased. The use of antibiotics has increased and we now have “superbugs” that no antibiotic can destroy: pestilence, fever, inflammation, fiery heat. Another pestilence is AIDS; it clings until one is consumed. The drugs used to treat these diseases bring about candida (yeast infection), which brings about an itch that is incredibly difficult to heal. Insanity and bewilderment of heart (perhaps reflected in suicide rates, especially of teens) have increased.

We’ve also experienced blight on our crops. A few years ago, two weeks before the harvest, the potato crop was destroyed by blight in a few days. In just days, healthy potato plants became compost.

Mildew and mold are two words you do NOT want to say to your household insurance company! This has becomes a national catastrophe and has grown in severity in recent years. It took years and even TV movies about this to raise awareness of the danger of household mold. However, God warned us about it long ago.

Leviticus 14:36-45 "The priest shall then order that they empty the house before the priest goes in to look at the mark, so that everything in the house need not become unclean; and afterward the priest shall go in to look at the house.

³⁷"So he shall look at the mark, and if the mark on the walls of the house has greenish or reddish depressions, and appears deeper than the surface;

³⁸ then the priest shall come out of the house, to the doorway, and quarantine the house for seven days.

³⁹"And the priest shall return on the seventh day and make an inspection. If the mark has indeed spread in the walls of the house,

⁴⁰ then the priest shall order them to tear out the stones with the mark in them and throw them away ¹at an unclean place outside the city.

⁴¹"And he shall have the house scraped all around inside, and they shall dump the plaster that they scrape off at an unclean place outside the city.

⁴² "Then they shall take other stones and replace those stones; and he shall take other plaster and replaster the house.

⁴³"If, however, the mark breaks out again in the house, after he has torn out the stones and scraped the house, and after it has been replastered,

⁴⁴then the priest shall come in and make an inspection. If he sees that the mark has indeed spread in the house, it is a malignant mark in the house; it is unclean.

⁴⁵"He shall therefore tear down the house, its stones, and its timbers, and all the plaster of the house, and he shall take them outside the city to an unclean place.”

This is in a passage with leprosy, not that the house has leprosy, but that it is as serious as that disease. Today, we’ve found that people who have mold in their houses can have permanently damaged health, to the point of death. That is not a blessing, but a curse.

In U. S. history, it was the norm during the early years of this country for governors to call for days of prayer, fasting and humiliation when faced with floods, drought, plagues of bugs, etc. They knew that in some way they had offended the Almighty. Whenever this was put into action, our written history tells us that the event, which brought the call for prayer, was reversed.

Today, extreme weather has become a way of life throughout the country, including drought. Watering restrictions are the norm in many places during the hot months of the year. None of this was the norm in the past. As our country has walked away from the instructions of God, the penalty for so doing has increased. Yet, we seem to be unable to make the connection that our forefathers so easily and readily made: We have offended the Almighty; we need to repent, pray, seek the face of God and turn from our wicked ways. 2 Chronicles 7:14 talks about what God will do if His people will do this. Unfortunately, in general, not even the church today makes the connection colonial America made. God wants our attention! WAKE UP and SEE WHAT IS HAPPENING!!

9-11 is another fulfillment of disobeying the torah, God’s teaching and instructions for living. Just read Deuteronomy 28:49-50, above, if you doubt this. It promises that “a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth,” shall come against us “as the eagle swoops down”. This will be “a nation whose language you shall not understand,” ^as well as “a nation of fierce countenance who shall have no respect for the old, nor show favor to the young.” While U. S. soldiers get killed for not harming women, children and the elderly who turn out to be combatants, our enemies kill everyone, regardless of sex or age and rejoice in their streets for doing so.

PLEASE NOTE: God put these things in the Scripture for our good! The warning of Scripture is there so that we can avoid having these things come upon us. But because we have ignored God’s instructions:

Deuteronomy 28:45 "So all these curses shall come on you and pursue you and overtake you until you are destroyed, because you would not obey Yahweh your God by keeping His commandments and His statutes which He commanded you.

The fact that these will pursue us until we are destroyed shows that as long as we disobey His commandments, these things will gain in intensity until they destroy us. That is what we have seen in this country; that has been the pattern we have observed from at least the 1960s to present. In the 1960s, God and His Word were kicked out of public school classrooms and our nation began the slide down the slopes of “morality” (what God’s Word says is right and what is wrong) to where we are today.

We must face the fact that the church has failed. Why are we vehemently defending a system that is broken? After 9-11, the churches of America were filled, but after two weeks, all who had come seeking answers LEFT, because THEY DID NOT FIND THE ANSWERS THERE! God’s people have disobeyed His instructions and now have higher divorce and unwed pregnancy rates than the world. It’s time to turn back to obeying God’s instructions, whether they fit your theology or not. The proof: the past – a nation under the Word of God and receiving its blessings vs. the present – a nation where every man does what is right in his own eyes and is receiving the curses promised in Scripture.

The fact that we are seeing the curses for disobedience to His commandments certainly proves that the teaching of the church that we are “no longer under the law” is false. If we were no longer under the law, then God would be unjust to not deliver us from the penalty of something from which He exempted us. Since the penalty remains, so does His teaching and instructions, His torah, what the church calls, “the law.”

Can there be a change?

Deuteronomy 30:1-3 "So it shall be when all of these things have come upon you, the blessing and the curse which I have set before you, and you call them to mind…,

² and you return to Yahweh your God and obey Him with all your heart and soul according to all that I command you today, you and your sons,

³ then Yahweh your God will restore you from captivity, and have compassion on you…

Deuteronomy 30:8-10 "And you shall again obey Yahweh, and observe all His commandments which I command you today.

⁹"Then Yahweh your God will prosper you abundantly in all the work of your hand, in the offspring of your body and in the offspring of your cattle and in the produce of your ground, for Yahweh will again rejoice over you for good, just as He rejoiced over your fathers;

¹⁰if you obey Yahweh your God to keep His commandments and His statutes which are written in this book of the law, if you turn to Yahweh your God with all your heart and soul.

Deuteronomy 30:15-20 "See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, and death and adversity;

¹⁶ in that I command you today to love Yahweh your God, to walk in His ways and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His judgments, that you may live and multiply, and that Yahweh your God may bless you in the land where you are entering to possess it.

¹⁷"But if your heart turns away and you will not obey, but are drawn away and worship other gods and serve them,

¹⁸ I declare to you today that you shall surely perish….

¹⁹ "I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants,

²⁰ by loving Yahweh your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to Him; for this is your life and the length of your days…."

Obey the Word of the living God, or listen to what your preachers have been telling you. Whose track record would you prefer to bank upon?
